melihat hari-hari terakhir idola mereka  saat mempersiapkan konser yang sedianya akan
menjadi pembuktian bahwa  Michael tetaplah seorang raja di dunia hiburan.  Dari doku-
mentasi yang dibuat AEG Live, terkumpul rekaman video sepanjang 100 jam yang mencakup
proses latihan dan persiapan Michael menghadapi konser This Is It.

Sutradara Kenny Ortega mencoba meramu  80 jam rekaman video itu  menjadi sebuah doku-
mentasi tentang hari-hari terakhir  Michael saat ia mencurahkan seluruh tenaganya un-
tuk membuat konser ini jadi  sebuah konser yang tak akan terlupakan  sepanjang zaman.
Awalnya  video yang direkam  ini hanyalah untuk keperluan dokumentasi persiapan resi-
dency show namun  dengan  meninggalnya Michael  Jackson maka  potongan-potongan momen
yang terekam ini kemudian dirangkai menjadi sebuah full feature film berdurasi kurang
lebih 112 menit.  Ini jelas bukan pekerjaan  yang mudah karena video itu memang tidak
dibuat  berdasarkan  konsep apa pun.  Namun untuk masalah  yang satu ini,  sepertinya
Kenny Ortega, yang menjadi sutradara dan empat orang editor: Don Brochu, Brandon Key,
Tim Patterson dan Kevin Stitt tak mengalami banyak kesulitan. Kenny sanggup merangkai
potongan video ini  berdasarkan satu benang merah yang mengikatnya menjadi satu kesa-
tuan.  Visi ini kemudian  diwujudkan para editor yang  dengan sangat teliti merangkai
potongan video ini menjadi  satu kesatuan dan tak terlihat bahwa video-video yang di-
rangkai ini  sebenarnya diambil secara acak.  Satu benang merah  yang mengikat adalah
sang mega bintang sendiri, Michael Jackson.

THIS IS IT bisa jadi akan menjadi sebuah kontradiksi. Di satu sisi film ini tak lebih
dari sekedar  rangkaian penampilan Michael Jackson  yang diselipi beberapa adegan off
stage sementara  di sisi lain,  film ini seolah mengungkap  lebih dalam tentang siapa
Michael di belakang panggung dan  bagaimana perfeksionis ini begitu memperhatikan ma-

In the weeks before his death, Michael Jackson (August 29, 1958 - June 25, 2009) was rehearsing a show, "This Is It," that was to open in July. This film begins with a few of the auditioning dancers speaking to the camera about why they're trying out and what Jackson means to them. Then we plunge into rehearsals at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The film is arranged by musical number with pre-recorded material and footage from Jackson's various rehearsals edited together to take us through what would have been the concert's set list.
